Current status: Pretty much dropped. I do still play L elsewhere, though, so I'll be happy to tag with this one on request. As far as what happened to him, I assume that he and [livejournal.com profile] misamisal were able to return to his world and live out some form of the life they wanted together. That's about as happy an ending as this particular character can hope for.

This was a roleplay journal for [livejournal.com profile] dndressingroom, with a bit of character development info here and there. If you add this journal as a friend, but I don't know you personally, you probably won't be added back. (Also, I probably won't add you if you're underage; it doesn't mean I don't like you. The only real reason to add this journal is because you want to read the friends-locked adult threads on it.)

If you want to see my Death Note fandom journal, please pop over to [livejournal.com profile] eru_dition and I will probably be happy to add you back. There are apps for other games there, as well as fanfic, recommendations, etc. Most of the posts on this journal that aren't RP will probably migrate over there in time.

Note: I've cleared out this journal's friends list a lot recently. If you would rather I re-added your journal, please let me know! I'll probably be happy to.

Update (September 2011): I haven't touched this post in almost three years. I should probably, one day, move the elements of it that are still relevant to my other journal; until then, I'll just say that the L I played with this journal was a learning experience. Looking back, strictly at old tags, there are a few things I would do differently. One is that I think his dialogue got too stilted and formal in some threads because I didn't use enough contractions in his speech, and another is that I was timid about threading some things that he should not necessarily IC-ly have been as timid about. A third is that I wasn't satisfied with the 8-year-old version I attempted at all. :)

I thought it would be interesting to address some conclusions that I've come to about L, which will hopefully inform what goes on here. I update this as I understand new elements. It's long and rambly, but should be a very comprehensive guide to understanding where he's coming from.

what is canon and what is supposition and what is just a lie. )

Is it a new meme? I don't know. I didn't make it up, but I didn't find it anywhere, either.

Come up with 50 (or more) adjectives to describe your character, and list them in alphabetical order. The Free Dictionary is an excellent site that may help you avoid exact synonyms.

Not only paranoid, manipulative, and watchful, but also... )
firm_detective: (misa chair)
L has been keeping to himself, more or less, since his leg healed, but regular trips to the largest of the libraries are always on his agenda. As such, he spends much of his time reading. Tonight it's I, Claudius, which isn't holding his attention as well as he would like.

He rests in bed, propped up on pillows, his legs stretched out in front of him. Misa sprawls next to him, reading a magazine that she's managed to find somewhere. It might be any time of day, but his body and the lack of false daylight streaming in through the windows in their bedroom both tell him that it's probably closing in on midnight -- the moonlight, as fake as everything else, is silver in a dark blue velvet sky.

He shifts position, rolling on his side to face Misa, shifting the pillows that support his head. Before resuming his reading, he pauses to look at her. He likes the curve of her eyelashes against her cheek. As such, he tugs at the top of the spine of her magazine, then cranes his neck to try to kiss her forehead. He takes care to exaggerate the forlorn quality of his facial expression.

With regard to the injury mentioned here, it was an IC explanation for L's absence from the main community: he fell on some ice in one of the winter rooms and sprained his ankle and knee, and it took several months to heal.]
firm_detective: (girlfriend)
L wakes curled against Misa's back, his arm wrapped around her, cradling her stomach. The room is blurry for a moment before details begin to emerge; then it becomes obvious that everything is wrong.

The room is generally dark, but brightened by the cool false daylight that streams in through the windows. Now the light is cold and bright, and he can see that there's snow on the outside of their windowpanes. The room itself had been decorated in black, grey, and red when he went to sleep (restful, he thinks, though he would prefer something lighter); it has transformed into what he supposes is meant to be a holiday wonderland, with touches of red and green and gold. Their garnet velvet bedspread, for example, is now dark green. What had been black wood in their furniture has changed, as if touched by Midas, into muted antique gold. The mantel over the fireplace has a garland of real holly leaves and berries, and in the open walkway between the bedroom and the living room, a ball of mistletoe hangs from the ceiling.

The small Christmas tree in the corner of the room, between the fireplace and the bathroom door, is expected; Misa dragged it there and set it up a week earlier. Everything else is a surprise.

This isn't the first time it has happened; the room changed when she moved into it, and went entirely white for about twenty-seven hours or so after they bound themselves to each other. But this is the first time the decoration has happened as the result of a holiday, and he wonders if perhaps they should find a new room.

The room has been relatively benign apart from that, though, so he pushes the thought aside, angles his neck, and kisses just below her ear. "Misa, it's time to wake up."

It's her twenty-first birthday.

Explanation: I don't usually read RPS, but apparently a secret about someone taking this test over and over was up in the last few days, so everyone I know is taking this thing. I took it for L here twice (the second time to fix a hasty misclick), and got the same result each time... Read more... )

I thought this one might be more accurate (it would definitely have been the most accurate prior to his relationship with Misa)... Read more... )

Anyway, it's interesting that what a person may be like in an overall sense may not be what they're like in romantic interactions. This one seems accurate for both L and Light, but is not really accurate for either of them when it comes down to what their "seduction style" might be: Read more... )

L is browsing the stacks in the eighth-floor library. Row after row of books on ornate, dark wood shelving -- How long have they been here? -- surrounds him, but he can still see the far-away main entrance to the library from where he stands. He wrinkles his nose at the faint musty scent of the crumbling volumes.

Tag this post with your character's (characters'?) journal names and I will write a one-line drabble about them from my character's perspective. "One line" means 15 words or less.

Then post this up so you can do the same.

[Or don't post up your own, if you aren't up for it! I'm not being too strict with myself on the fifteen words thing, either.

I should probably put this on [livejournal.com profile] eru_dition, but nobody reads that. From [livejournal.com profile] curtainwizard.]
firm_detective: (18th century)
L returns to his room, still clothed in attire from the turn of the 19th century; there's some urgency in his manner. He closes and locks the door behind him, makes his way to the sofa, and sits down, propping his elbows on his knees and supporting his forehead in his hands.

"Misa? We have to talk -- now, please."

As they approach the door of their room, Misa clings to L. There's something odd in his expression.

firm_detective: (exhausted)
It's an ordinary evening. L is curled on his side on the sofa, reading The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, while Misa makes herself a cup of cocoa in their tiny kitchen.

"It's interesting: Gibbon attributes much of the fall of the Empire to degeneracy within the Praetorian Guard. Is there enough hot water for a cup of tea?"

L sits at the kitchen table, considering recent events and idly picking at a bowl of fruit salad with his fork. Every so often, he sips from a cup of tea.

It has been a quiet day.

Title: Birthday
Rating: PG
Pairings/Characters: L, Beyond Birthday, cameo appearances by the rest of the NPA task force
Warnings: Does a ghost merit a warning?
Word Count: 2941
Notes: This is my first fanfic in almost 15 years. I think I owe part of the concept of ghost!B to [livejournal.com profile] knights_say_nih. The idea to write about B haunting L on his last birthday (the only birthday when it would have been possible) comes from some free association (Halloween, L's Birthday, Beyond Birthday, etc). Also, L'Osier is a real restaurant, considered one of the top French restaurants in Tokyo -- which makes it one of the best in the world.

firm_detective: (facepalm)
The Therapy Room has finally released its hold on both L and Misa. He trudges down the hall, avoiding eye contact with her, avoiding her touch. He feels as though the air has thickened: even walking is tiring.

When they reach the room, he opens the door, holding it for her after he steps inside, still not looking at her.

firm_detective: (lying down)
When he walks into the room, L looks shaken. He's moving stiffly, and blood continues to trickle down his face from a nasty cut on his forehead; his hand is also cut. A few bruises are beginning to bloom.

He collapses into the chair closest to the door, sprawling across it.

[[Not sure where this is in the timeline -- sometime around nowish -- but L has just come from a run-in with [livejournal.com profile] curtainwizard in the Hate Room. Private to [livejournal.com profile] firm_detective and [livejournal.com profile] misamisal.]]
firm_detective: (tears in the rain)
Misa has been gone for more than three days, and there is no way to begin to locate her. I think she was returned to where she came from. What may happen to her there would be predictable and final.

I had forgotten how empty a room can feel, and how slowly time can move when there is nothing to fill it but waiting -- the hours creep by at the most protracted pace imaginable -- no distractions exist -- boredom and agitation take over.

I have very little appetite, but I have been in the kitchen, mostly to make people aware of what has happened. About every six hours or so, I leave a note here and go to her old room; I wait there for her for an hour or so, with her things, then I walk through the hallways, listening for the sounds of someone trapped in a room. Of course, I never hear anything. No one has seen her or heard her since a few hours before she vanished.

(Cockeyed optimism from Pink-san, somewhat less so from Mel, surprising good nature from Mihael, the usual strangeness from B, and so on. At the moment, I am writing this while sitting on the bed that used to be hers.)

I did not sleep the first night she was gone. A younger double of mine here is friendly -- friendlier than I would have been at his age, as is his boyfriend -- I ran into him in a room that gave us some sort of companion animal (I was given an insolent osprey who called herself Raina and hectored me about my health). This other L suggested chamomile and valerian; I credit the tea with the eight hours of sleep I've managed (4 each, the past two nights) since M. went away.

When I think about it, it seems that everything came too late for M. and me.

I can hope that she will come back, but what if she doesn't? Should I allow myself to hope, and if I do, when do I know it is time to stop? Supposing she never reappears, will I ever at least know what happened to her -- how long she lived after leaving? What she could remember?

How much would I be willing to give up to see her again?

["I am closest to you when I am far away."]

Down here everything is fine. We have a straw, we have a line. We have a bag, a rock, a mountain with a string of shepherds driving lions. )
firm_detective: (heart misa)
L sits on the sofa in the room he now shares with Misa. He holds a thick novel in one hand -- he's decided to give Gravity's Rainbow another try. He is careful of the book's position: Misa is sprawled along the length of the sofa, reading her own book, with the back of her head resting against his leg.

[Private to [livejournal.com profile] firm_detective and [livejournal.com profile] misamisal; dated slightly forward.]

firm_detective: (heart misa)
L sits on the sofa, reading a book, waiting for Misa to return from the kitchen. When he hears the door opening, he doesn't look up.

"Misa, we need to talk about something."
firm_detective: (kid - cherry)
Misa steps into the room with L following. He is now quite a bit shorter than her.

He flops down on the sofa. After he's situated, he stares at her with big, dark eyes.

"I know I can still read books, but Misa, would you read to me later?"

He has been trying to hide his fear from most of the adults he's encountered, to greater or lesser degrees of success, but he doesn't feel like he needs to hide it from her.

[[This thread is private to [livejournal.com profile] firm_detective and [livejournal.com profile] misamisal for now; if you want in, you know the drill. I wouldn't be surprised if [livejournal.com profile] justiceishot dropped by at some point, for example.

L has stumbled into an age-reversal room on accident, and is now 8 years old. He is 4'5" tall, weighs about 55 lbs, and has a face that is all eyes. He is expressive of a few emotions, but makes transparent attempts to cover most of them. His speech is more "British" than it is as an adult, and has lost some of its other characteristic patterns. The overall impression he gives is that of a bright little boy who may sometimes be both too serious and too calculating for his age.

His memories are jumbled. He knows who most of the people in the Mansion are, but very few details of the Kira case. Things that happened more than about a week ago feel far away in his memory, while things that happened in early childhood are more present. He is right around the age he was when he met Watari, and as such, is more inclined to miss his parents.

His feelings towards Misa are also different: he has a strong preference for her, but it's a child's love for a favorite adult.]]
firm_detective: (YES.)
Perhaps the Mansion is nice sometimes. Recognizing that L's old room is not quite right for Misa to share with him, the single bedroom has been expanded into a suite overnight.

Many elements have been reorganized: for example, the bathroom and closet now mirror their former position in the old single room, and the monitors have been replaced by a thick glass dividing wall between the old room and the new one. Curtained windows have been added in both rooms that look out onto a scene similar to that shown by the window in Misa's room, and the fireplace, miniature kitchen area, and much of the furniture are all new. The predominant color scheme is still grey, black, and dark red.

[[Please refer to the old bedroom post for furniture descriptions, etc. Tables, desk, and bookcases are all dark wood, upholstery is mostly dark red velvet, walls are charcoal grey. Flooring is wood, painted glossy black, and the rug in front of the fireplace is a shaggy flokati. I left the windows out of the living area, but they should be on the same wall as those in the sleeping area, on either side of the dining table. The food-prep area is only large enough to make tea, with a miniature refrigerator and a bar sink, and includes no oven of any kind. L's nightstand no longer has the refrigerator concealed in it.]]
