Misa steps into the room with L following. He is now quite a bit shorter than her.
He flops down on the sofa. After he's situated, he stares at her with big, dark eyes.
"I know I can still read books, but Misa, would you read to me later?"
He has been trying to hide his fear from most of the adults he's encountered, to greater or lesser degrees of success, but he doesn't feel like he needs to hide it from her.

L has stumbled into an age-reversal room on accident, and is now 8 years old. He is 4'5" tall, weighs about 55 lbs, and has a face that is all eyes. He is expressive of a few emotions, but makes transparent attempts to cover most of them. His speech is more "British" than it is as an adult, and has lost some of its other characteristic patterns. The overall impression he gives is that of a bright little boy who may sometimes be both too serious and too calculating for his age.
His memories are jumbled. He knows who most of the people in the Mansion are, but very few details of the Kira case. Things that happened more than about a week ago feel far away in his memory, while things that happened in early childhood are more present. He is right around the age he was when he met Watari, and as such, is more inclined to miss his parents.
His feelings towards Misa are also different: he has a strong preference for her, but it's a child's love for a favorite adult.]]

Don't worry, darling. He can't hurt you. Besides, if he ever tried, I'd be all over him before he'd even get close to you. I'll protect you, okay? And so with just about everyone else here in the Mansion. Besides, he can't kill anyone here. ::she gently ruffles his hair, smiling down at him affectionately, as if he were her little brother:: Okay?

Date: 2008-09-07 03:19 am (UTC)From:*His French accent is surprisingly good; he doesn't need to take any care at all to pronounce the name correctly. His father was French.*
"The Murders in the Rue Morgue" is better than "The Mystery of Marie Roget," but "The Purloined Letter" is the best of all of them. I like Sherlock Holmes, too.
*Leaning against her, he nods, at first uncertainly, then with more assurance.*
He doesn't even know where the room is. It's pretty hard to find, but we have to keep it that way, right?
Misa, I don't want you to get hurt protecting me.
*He continues to cling to her.*

I know, I don't want you to get hurt trying to protect me either, but I know you would do anything to protect me. Just as I would do anything to protect you. I love you very much.

Date: 2008-09-07 03:56 am (UTC)From:My dad was French. He taught me. He and Mum met at a university there.
*He hugs around her waist.*
I love you too, Misa. You're not gross like other girls, you're cool. And you're right -- I wouldn't let Light hurt you, either.
*He frowns.*
Has he tried before? Some other way, like?

It turned out he didn't, he just really didn't care. I wasn't part of his plans.
::she smiles down at him now:: But that's okay, because I have you now. And I know where you stand regarding your feelings for me. And you sweet and kind.

Date: 2008-09-07 11:16 pm (UTC)From:Um, the other grown-ups in the kitchen said you're my girlfriend. I know -- *he concentrates* -- that means we live together now. Are we going to get married? I think if I ever got married, I'd want to marry you. But you're too old.
*He nestles against her.*
Can we have hot cocoa, now?
no subject
Date: 2008-09-08 01:43 am (UTC)From:::she laughs at this:: I'm not too old, you know. Legally, I'm not even allowed to drink yet. Though, at the moment, we are a little over ten years apart in age.
::she flushes slightly at the mention of marriage:: I'm not sure. We...haven't really talked about it. Of course, I'd love to marry you, it would be wonderful...::she thinks about the prospect, smiling softly::...perhaps, in the future...You know, I always had this fantasy about getting married on a cliff side, either at sunrise or sunset, and it would just be me, my future husband, and the priest...::she shakes her head realizing she's rambling a bit:: Ah, but, like I said, we haven't really talked about it. Really, I'm just so glad to have found someone as wonderful as you. ::she squeeses him in a hug::
Yes, of course. :) We have marshmellows, too. Would you like some in your hot cocoa?

Date: 2008-09-08 02:20 am (UTC)From:Yes, she was nice. That was what Light tried to make me feel bad about -- my mum. He tried to make it sound like his mum was better because she didn't die, and like -- I would die too, because not having a mum would make me feel like I couldn't do anything right. But none of it is true. It's nobody's fault my mum died. It was an electrical fire.
*After listening to Misa's description of the wedding ceremony she envisions, he takes his forefinger out of his mouth, where he has been nibbling on its tip, then says,*
On a cliff... wouldn't that be dangerous?
*He blushes.*
I'm happy you like me, too, Misa.
Marshmallows would be good.
*He leans forward and opens the laptop computer.*

Date: 2008-09-08 02:32 am (UTC)From:::she giggles:: Well, not a cliff like one see's in cartoons, with the earth crumbling from beneath it. More like...well, like a small mountain, over looking the ocean, with lots of flowers and trees surrounding the area. But, in the fall, so there aren't as many bees or other bugs. ^__^;
::she stands, gently ruffling his hair, then crosses the room to the kitchenette area and sets to work making the hot cocoa. She pours milk into two mugs then sticks them in the microwave for a couple of minutes and busys herself getting the packets of cocoa, straws, and spoons from the cupboard. Once the microwave finishes, she adds in the power, stirring, then drops a few marshmellows in each mugs. She brings them back over to the couch and holds one out to L::
Here you go. Careful, though, it may be a bit too hot at the moment.

Date: 2008-09-08 03:04 am (UTC)From:Yes, I know. How long ago? I think mine died two years ago. Are you still as sad as you were then?
*His head tilts to the side as he listens to her description.*
That sounds pretty, Misa, but why the ocean?
*As he waits for her to finish the cocoa, the laptop powers on, and he looks at the files on the desktop. One is labelled MONKEY, and was not there before his age-reversal.*
*He accepts the mug of cocoa, and stirs it carefully, watching the marshmallows melt.*
Thanks. Can you show me the mystery games, now?

Date: 2008-09-08 03:19 am (UTC)From:Mine passed away about three years ago, when I was 16. Though, it's almost four years now...no, I'm not as sad as I was then. It still hurts, though... ::she gaze is fixed off in the distance, the memory flashing before her eyes:: ...it's just...difficult...to have to remember that I couldn't save them...
::she smiles at him:: Well, I've never been to the ocean before, and I love natural bodies of water. I've seen streams, creeks, even lakes, but never the ocean. I always imagined after the ceremony, my husband and I would walk on the sand near the water...I always wanted to collect shells there and toss starfish back into the water. Plus, the waters waves are controlled by the moons gravitational pull. I've always loved the moon, and I think it would make me feel closer to it.
::she smiles at the file labeled Monkey::
Sure, but weren't you going to show me your program first? I'm excited to see it. ^__^

Date: 2008-09-08 03:45 am (UTC)From:I don't want you to be sad, Misa.
*He stares at her, but does not attempt to hug her.*
I haven't been to the beach in a long time, but I think it was fun. I didn't have to wear shoes.
*When she mentions his program, he becomes visibly more excited, though he tries to cover it.*
Yes, um.
*He leans over, clicking the file. An emulation screen pops up -- this file is circa 1987-88, after all -- and in it, a full-screen design depicting a monkey on a background of trees appears. The animation only lasts about a second and a half, but the monkey lopes across the screen, from one edge to another. It had been an exercise in observation, as well as programming, and it had taken him several days of after-school time to complete. He wasn't told until much later that it had been expected to take him several weeks.*
*He turns to Misa, proud, and says,*
Did you like it?
